JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Opposition party leader Megawati Soekarnoputri said the settlement of the Bank Century bailout case had been hampered by political decisions and the government’s indecisiveness.
"Law enforcement now is discriminative. To ensure that the process will be smooth there must be no discrimination and the case must be settled judicially as well as politically," the general chairperson of the Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) said after attending a function to mark the party’s 39th anniversary at the party’s headquarters here on Tuesday.
Megawati said she believed the case could be settled if the law was enforced strictly and fairly without political interference. "I believe the case will be solved sooner or later. This case must be settled properly. I hope the media will continue to follow it up and not be discriminative," she said.
Therefore, she hoped the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) could meet its promise to settle big cases in the country.
"We will see whether the new KPK leadership will fulfill its promise to settle big cases. I do not know them but would like to advise them to really enforce the law fairly."
