Pertamina Geothermal to Invest Rp2 Trillion

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) has set about Rp2 trillion as capital expenditure (capex) for 2012, up from its 2011 capex around Rp1.7 trillion, the company’s corporate secretary said.

"Capex next year (2012) will be higher than before," said PGE Corporate Secretary Adiatma Sardjito on the sidelines of a seminar on "Entering the Era of New and Renewable Energy for the National Energy Sovereignty" held by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin Indonesia) at the Jakarta Convention Center here on Thursday.

According Adiatma, in 2012 the projects that will be developed are the PLTP Ulu Belu power plants, units 1 and 2 with a respective capacity of 1 x 55 MW and with an investment of around Rp385 billion.

"In 2012 there will be at least 110 MW additional geothermal energy," he said.

While until the end of 2011, this firm, which is a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, is to increase the capacity its geothermal energy up to 292 MW in its seven new projects.

"The most recent one developed this year is the PLTP Lahendong 4 with a capacity 1 x 20 MW. It is expected to begin operating in October 2011, after previously operating Lahendong units 1, 2 and 3," he said.

Apart from that Adiatma said that PGE will also develop PLTP Ulu Belu 3 and 4, each with a capacity of 1 x 55 MW and PLTP Lumut Balai 4 X 55 MW.
