Anarchic Mass Organizations in Indonesia Can be Disbanded

BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com - Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar said anarchic mass organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGO) could be disbanded if they committed anarchic acts that harmed the people and state.

"Ormas or NGO which commit acts of violence can be dissolved by the government apparatus in the fields," the minister said here on Friday.

Asked after attending a plenary meeting of a notary association, the minister said the disbandment of such an organization, based on the law, was to be carried out by the law enforcing agencies.

He said disbandment of a mass organization or non-governmental organization would be done by the ministry of home affairs and their legal status by the ministry of law and human rights.

In connection with the violence committed by a group of people against Ahmadis in Cikeusik village, Pandeglang district, Banten province last Sunday, the minister said the government was now studying the best solution to the problem.

"I hope the people would be patient because the ministry of law and human rights as well as the ministry of religious affairs are trying to find the best solution to the problem," he said.
